Today's destination is the Albret country, a fiefdom of the " Gallant Green Knight " situated between the Armagnac vineyards and the Rivers Baïse and Gélise. You will discover a rich and diverse heritage, from fortified villages to Renaissance castles.

Leave Agen via Le Passage then take the D656 towards Roquefort. After 15 km, turn left on the D294 towards Saumont and then the D137 to Francescas (25 km), a Bastide founded in 1286 by Edward I of England. It has retained its medieval appearance, with its square and covered arcades and half-timbered houses. Here are also the remains of the seat of La Hire, the lord of the area and the celebrated companion of Joan of Arc.

Continue on the D137r After 5 km, fork right to Moncrabeau (9 km). A site famous for its annual " Festival of Lies " (first Sunday in August). A signposted 40 minute tour explains the " Liers' Academy ", which was founded in the 18th century.

Carry on until you meet the D930. Take the D219 ahead and then after 3 km turn right towards Artigues. Carry straight on to Le Fréchou (13 km). Panoramic views. 

The 13th century castle and the 13th century church which houses a 16th century painted figure of Christ. 

Return to the D149. Turn right to Mézin (11 km). The birthplace of Armand Fallières (1841-1931), President of the Republic (1906-1913) and President of the Senate (1899). Staging post on the road to Santiago de Compostella.

Take the D930 to Nérac (6 km). This charming town on the banks of the Baïse was the fiefdom of the Albret family. Here Henri of Navarre, the future Henri IV, passed his childhood and he returned here in 1576. Under the influence of the " Gallant Green Knight's " mother and grandmother, the town became an important Protestant spiritual and cultural centre in the 16th century.
