This excursion will take you along the banks of a natural feature that has only recently been re-opened to navigation. The famous Ente plum orchards line the river and stretch up into the hills and the high ground is dominated by traditional villages with magnificent views.

Leave Agen on the RN21 towards Villeneuve-sur-Lot. At the roundabout coming out of Foulayronnes, take the second exit right towards Laugnac and Montpezat (the D13 followed by the D667). Coming out of Montpezat, take the little road to the left signposted Granges/Lot (34 km). A Bastide founded in1281. Landscaped walks along the riverbanks.

Take the D666 in the direction of Villeneuve-sur-Lot and fork left onto the D13 to Castelmoron (4 km). The village is a centre for River Tourism with a large port, the port of Lalande. Walks around the Rocher. Shops. Bar / Restaurant.

Rejoin the D666 towards Temple/Lot (5 km). Watersports Leisure Centre. Shops.

 Continue on the D666 to Ste Livrade/Lot (7.5 km). There is a Vietnamese community and Asian grocery stores in the village. A park on the St.Martin Esplanade.Remains of a 14th century castle which has become an exhibition centre. Bar / Restaurant.

Take the D217 to Casseneuil (6.5 km). Known as " Little Venice ", it owes this soubriquet to its position on a peninsula where the Rivers Lède and Lot meet. Attractive half-timbered houses.

Go onto the D242 in the Villeneuve direction. After 4km, make sure you stop at Camagnac

Continue on the D242 to Villeneuve/Lot (10 km). This Bastide is the second most important administrative town of the Lot-et-Garonne and conceals some charming shopping streets. A historic town, but also a sporting centre : Villeneuve founded the first Rugby League team in France. Shops. Mooring facilities.

Drive up to the village of Pujols (2 km). A fortified village perched at 130 m above sea level, Pujols is listed as " one of France's most beautiful villages " and offers many spectacular viewing points. Map.

Return to Villeneuve-sur-Lot and take the D661 to Penne d'Agenais (12 km). Perched at 217 metres above sea level, this 13th century fortified village is dominated by a basilica. Built on a hillside, it was ravaged in the Crusade against the Albigensians and in the Wars of Religion. Staging post on the road to Santiago de Compostella. Park around the old castle. Botanic walk. Shops. Bar / Restaurant. Landscaped lake.
